Am I reading standard 6C.1 correctly?    All lead teachers now have to have an associate degree in ECE or child development?   I am hoping Child development qualifies for CDA.    but then 6c.2 states all associate teachers and teacher aids must have a CDA.   Is this correct?

    Thank you

    Hi Rachel,

6C.1 does say lead teachers must have a college degree however, this is NOT a required assessment item.  If not all of your lead teachers have a college degree, this item would be Not Met.  In order to be Accredited, you must meet the following:

80% of the assessment items measured across all standards together, and
60% of the assessment items measured in each single standard, and
100% of required assessment items, and
Each class selected to be assessed met 70% of the assessment items measured.

This means if your program meets 60% of the other assessment items in Standard 6, it is possible to earn NAEYC Accreditation with lead teachers who do not have a degree.

    Hope this helps!

This might help to look at the staff qualification better, however, it will not prevent a program from becoming accredited. It could be an area for improvement.
