As of 10/13/2021, the Ohio child care rules no longer specify a 6-hour time frame. Rule 5101:2-12-10 Appendix lists the requirements of what topics should be covered, but no time frame.
The Resource and Referral agencies across Ohio conduct the full course, and if it is on the OPR's training search, then it meets the requirements.
The rule states:
All child care staff members are to be currently trained in child abuse and neglect recognition and prevention.
Child abuse and neglect recognition and prevention training is to be completed within the first sixty days of hire.
(b)Until all required individuals are current in the trainings, at a minimum, the center is to have at least one trained child care staff member on-site (in each building) during all hours of operation who meets this requirement.

Thank you, and I have instructed them to take the training from OCCRRA. We did train on Mandated Reporter, but the state requires that providers have an initial 6 hour training and I am making that requirement for my staff also. I want them to know everything the providers are required to know. The referral agency here in Cuyahoga does not offer it for the 6 hours, but in Dayton and Cincy, theirs do. I am very jealous! We took the 1 hour training but it was so sketchy and did not talk about a lot of the types or forms of abuse that we see occurring with the kids.
Thank you so much for your input!

You can find several trainings for child abuse awareness on OCCRA. (Ohio Child Care Resource and Referral Agency)

Hello, I found Universal classes, online course, for Child Abuse Awareness. It is a course offered. Your staff can take it together but call the company and find out more if possible. This comprehensive course studies the typical profiles of child abusers, reviews the various forms and aspects of neglect and abuse, discusses how to recognize the signs of abuse, and summarizes the steps to take to document, report, and end the abuse.

Hope this helps.

Hi everyone,
I am having the worst time attempting to find someone to teach a Child Abuse Awareness course to my staff. I want them to know this information because they are mandated reporters and need to be aware of what that fully entails.
I welcome any suggestions.
