    Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about literacy activities that can be done with the toddler age group?

    Thank you,

I did I Know an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly this week.  I had a poster board woman with a cut out mouth so the children could feed her the animals. They loved it.  Another teacher had frog clips on an oven mitt and she did 5 Green and Speckled Frogs.
What kind of ideas are you interested in? Actual books to read or follow up activities?

Hello! The children in my class are 12- to 24-months old, and a few books that they enjoy are:

    1. 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear' by Eric Carle- we 'chant' this and include patting on the leg to the beat of the words, which helps keep them engaged and attentive. We also stop and go over the sound each animal makes. (We pat our legs on the words brown, bear, brown, bear, what, do you, see. (7 pats)
    2. "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" by Jane Cabrera - this is a fun book to chant/sing while we 'row' our arms. We also stop on each page and ask "What does this animal say?" and they respond.
    3. "The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse" by Eric Carle - This story has few words, but brightly colored pages and we also go over different animal sounds.

Although we chant/sing more than we read, these books hopefully inspire the babies to see how much fun and enjoyable reading a book can be and promote that love of books going forward. Most of them will go to our board book box that we keep on the floor in our 'library,' select a book, and look through it themselves. We have two big pillows on the floor on each side of book box they can sit on and enjoy looking through the books. We try to change them out every two weeks to add interest and newness to their choices.

    Hi Cecilia,

Check out the website Jbrary: https://jbrary.com/. They have tons of fun songs, activities, and book recommendations for toddlers. They also have a YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/jbrary) where they demonstrate some of the songs featured on the website.

    I hope this helps!
