Carolyn,
I have been teaching using the High Scope Curriculum for 25 years. Before that our program used Creative Curriculum.
High Scope is fantastic and easy to use. No we don't actually do themes or studies or projects but we go off the children's interests. It may turn into something like a theme or study but we change it as the children's interests change. We are free to do such things as teach or introduce children to dramatic arts thru plays, retelling favorite stories or acting them out. We can introduce the children to different genres of music, types of art (still life, abstract, etc.) and use many different mediums to explore arts. We are exploring totem poles at this time and then children will make one and we will have a class one depicting which animal they would be if they could be one. We can investigate the lives we see around us since we are in a rural area, and touch base on how that would be different in an urban area. We always give a background of how these different ideas and processes have come to be.
High Scope has great resources to teach social-emotional skills and to do social problem solving. High Scope has the same key indicators ( called Key Developmental Indicators or KDI's) as many curriculums do: Social Emotional, Approaches to Learning, Physical Development and Health, Mental Health, Language/Literacy/& Communication, Math, Science & Technology, Social Studies and Creative Arts (including art, music & dramatic arts). It coincides with most major assessment tools and also has it's own assessment tool.
I would encourage you to look into High Scope which is researched based and proven thru the Perry Creek Preschool Project in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Hope this helps.

Hi Everyone,
I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has used Highscope or any other curriculum at a preschool. We are looking into purchasing curriculum for the first time. Our program has 100 children ages 2-TK and we teach through play.
Thank you in advance,
Carolyn
