With hate crime violence on the rise, the Diversity and Equity Education interest forum would like to remind all of us to take care of each other and ourselves at the annual conference.
Watch out for each other. If you are walking to your hotel or another conference venue, include other conference attendees in your group if you can, especially people who are members of groups targeted by hate crimes.
If you are a member of a group targeted by hate crimes and feel unsafe walking back to your hotel or to a meeting, we encourage you to ask for support from others at the conference. At our annual business meeting, we'll ask for volunteers who'd be willing to accompany others who aren't feeling safe. You can also post requests in the NAEYC diversity and equity education for adults interest forum facebook page. We'll check it as often as we can, and attempt to connect you to others.
Together we can keep the conference safer and more productive for everyone.
