At our 1st home visit, we explain our High Scope curriculum so they understand that we base our learning on what the children show interest in and extend from there. later we share the state early learning standards so they understand the expectations for their child as they move towards starting kindergarten. We make sure that the parents understand that these are guidelines to follow and that
every child is unique in how, when, and what they learn. We want them to understand that these guidelines help us to provide experiences for their child to learn what they need to and for us to determine where each child needs some extra help and experience in developing the skills they need to be successful as they enter Kindergarten.

I was listening to a podcast this morning about how to pick out preschool programs for small children. And I realized that parents are looking for A LOT when it comes to preschool programs. A lot of it had to do with the stuff that was available and the things done to prepare their child for Kindergarten. What are some of the things you do to balance parent expectations with what is realistic for children in your program?
