  • 1.  CDA Renewal

    Hello everyone!
I have my CDA and have renewed it one time while I was waiting to complete my A.A.S. degree in Early Childhood Education.  I have another year before I have to think about renewing again. My question is should I renew when it comes time? Are there any benefits to having a CDA and an A.A.S.? If there are some good reasons for having both I would like to hear them.
    Thank you!

Hi there! As a PDS, I think it's entirely up to you. I can tell you that my degreed staff have maintained their CDA renewals as they arise, after achieving their AA/BA/BS degrees. I think it's a personal decision. I'm not certain if a CDA travels better than an associate's degree? I know that some degrees have various courses that don't necessarily transfer up to the next degree (or maybe Delaware is just difficult), or across state lines.

Me personally, I'd continue to renew it. It's not going to hurt anything.

Also, there is a newly launched Council Alumni Network (CAN), that would be a perfect place to share your insight as a CDA alum, and is housed on the council's website.

    Toni,
Thank you for your response. I was leaning toward keeping it renewed however wasn't sure if it was worth the time and money to do so.

As for the cost, your state may have TEACH or other similar scholarship funding that can help with the renewal cost.

If I remember the cost wasn't enough to break the bank. It's mainly gathering all my materials and submitting them. We do have TEACH here as I used it for my degree and am currently using it again to take classes to receive an Infant-Toddler Specialist certificate. My classes start Monday. 🙂

    Awesome! Yes, I think it's $125, maybe?

TEACH doesnt exist in Delaware and I'm so upset about it. Here's hoping our state's new plan is bigger & better, but as a TEACH alum, my heart is breaking over that.

I have my Masters Degree and I'm about a year away from
my PhD. I will always keep my CDA updated. I'm also a PD Specialist. We work to hard I've been a CDA holder since 1996. I feel it is important to maintain.
