Maybe give them some kind of fidget item that will help to keep them focused on the talk at name.

Fidget materials do help some children and adults self-regulate. Sensory stimulation from these materials however is not about manners at all. There are many articles, books, webinars about (a) what a child's behaviors can be springing from, and (b) how to see if there are sensory issues involved in a child's behavior. Fidgets are not magic cures for behavior issues. They help people regulate their sensory systems that can be over-reactive or under-reactive.

I would try some fidget toys at circle time to see if that helps.

    Hi Karla,

I would love to provide some suggestions, I just need a few details first: How old is the child? How long have they been in this classroom? What is their favorite thing to do in the classroom and/or at home?

Good Morning Karla, I understand how this type of behavior can create a disruption to the learning environment as a whole. There are many things to consider when addressing these types of behaviors to better support this learner and those around him/her to promote the best possible learning experience: the age of the child, the child's background/past learning experiences/home environment; potential delays (as this behavior may be a symptom of something much larger), as well as the amount of time spent in sedentary activities. I would love to help in any way I can by providing some positive strategies and guidance to help everyone. Please feel free to respond or reach out via email and I would be more than happy to provide specifics. My email is: corip24@gmail.com. Hope to hear from you soon!

Oh Karla this is a huge question!  I would need more details in order to help, like:

    How old is the child?

What are they doing specifically that is distracting others?

    How long is circle time?

Are there any activities that interest them where they get focused and involved?

How much open social time are the children in your program given?

When they are moving, what are they doing?

Those are just the first questions that popped into my head from your question...I know there are lots of folks on this list with lots of expertise in this area...hopefully between us all we can help find you some ways to help this child and your class and you and the other teachers.
