Observation videos

Hello!   I teach Early Childhood Education in a high school setting.  I am looking for some great videos I can show to my students to give them some opportunity to observe preschoolers and preschool settings.   With the current Covid situation many of the places where my students have gone to do observations are not allowing them to come and observe.   So I am looking for other ways to have them have some observation experience in preschool classrooms.

I have been compiling sources of videos (and many other resources for higher education). I have pasted the sources of videos that I copied from the document. Some of these won't be what you are looking for, but hopefully you can find a lot of things that are.

Here is the template course that links out to Canvas shells developed by ASCCC OERI that features a video library for the CAP 8 courses. This Canvas course and a course for each individual CAP 8 course are also uploaded into Canvas Commons. Search for ASCCC and they should come up.

    ACCESS sent out

ACCESS's Think Tank's Video List (around 160 videos, a few are not captioned)

The Center for Early Childhood Education at Eastern Connecticut State University added an additional 100 clips to their library (not all are captioned).

As long as they are used behind something password protected, your faculty can use these videos from Glendale Community College.

Colorado's Department of Education Results Matter Video Library (not all are captioned)

Head Start's Parent, Family, and Community Engagement Simulation

Cheryl, the Results Matter Video Library from the Colorado Department of Education is another great resource (sorry if this is a duplicate from what someone else already suggested). These are produced specifically for professional development, and there are a LOT of them to choose from.

I have used YouTube videos that have been uploaded as practice observations. Just be sure and watch the entire video before you  recommend it! Also, there are some great Head Start Videos out there too. Basically, you can find anything you need!

Have you thought about reaching out to local preschools or childcares to see if they might be willing to do virtual observations?  I work with childcares in my community, and many are willing to allow us to observe within the classroom via video.  As long as it is not recording the content, it is considered the same as in-person observation for us!  This might be a good option to give the students the reality of a classroom, rather than edited videos.

Results Matters has a video library for the purposes of practicing observation: https://www.cde.state.co.us/resultsmatter/rmvideoseries

Eastern Connecticut University also has a video library: https://www.easternct.edu/center-for-early-childhood-education/alphabetical-list-of-videos.html

I frequently utilize the Video and resource library through the Early EdU Alliance.  However, it does require creating a membership: https://www.earlyedualliance.org/
