  • 1.  safety on outside toys with fallen ash-

    Posted 09-12-2020 02:50 PM
    Hi
I am in California and there are fires in the counties all around. Ash has fallen for a number of days. I feel like I should wash down toys, climbing structures, and the ground before the children play outside again. Anyone know of any science about the danger level of ash? Not just the particles that become airborne again when stirred up but the ash on surfaces that children touch.
    thanks,

Hi. I have been watching the news and such a sad thing to be happening. Wouldn’t it also be an air quality question? If the ash is in the air and landing on the playground toys and equipment wouldn’t it be a concern that the children would be breathing the ash into their lungs too. Just a thought. Stay safe.

Beth, I'm assuming that Catherine will be waiting until it is safe to be outdoors to clean up the ash. At that point, there will still be a lot of ash on the ground (and a lot of other clean up to do if you are also in a high wind area -- I'm in Oregon). I found this link from the County of Santa Barbara, which does talk about trying to limit the ash particles that fly back into the air. https://www.countyofsb.org/cleanup.sbc

Greetings from Casa Dei Bambini Montessori School:

We were in the process of achieving our school accreditation from NAEYC. We were also expecting a visit this fall. Unfortunately,  Covid-19 has
caused many changes as it approached us unexpectedly.  Our teachers and liaisons for NAEYC have worked diligently.  Are you still planning to visit?
We do realize that these are gray unpredictable times, and it is well understood because of the delay and precautionary measurements that must be taken.

We would like to follow through with you as planned . Please let us know what your plans are concerning our accreditation. Our school reopened
in June with new protocols for our staff, parents and children. Because of this we have been very successful with our front line staff, parents and children. We have no reported cases. We are "still" looking forward to your visit with a "seal" of accreditation for our program.
