safety on outside toys with fallen ash-

I am in California and there are fires in the counties all around. Ash has fallen for a number of days. I feel like I should wash down toys, climbing structures, and the ground before the children play outside again. Anyone know of any science about the danger level of ash? Not just the particles that become airborne again when stirred up but the ash on surfaces that children touch.

Hi. I have been watching the news and such a sad thing to be happening. Wouldn’t it also be an air quality question? If the ash is in the air and landing on the playground toys and equipment wouldn’t it be a concern that the children would be breathing the ash into their lungs too. Just a thought. Stay safe.

Beth, I'm assuming that Catherine will be waiting until it is safe to be outdoors to clean up the ash. At that point, there will still be a lot of ash on the ground (and a lot of other clean up to do if you are also in a high wind area -- I'm in Oregon). I found this link from the County of Santa Barbara, which does talk about trying to limit the ash particles that fly back into the air.
