Hi everyone!!! Hope you are all well.

I just wanted to know what hours do you put in for your kinder students daily for whole group? Is it a state requirement or are you accommodating based on student needs?

Is there a NAEYC guidelines pdf somewhere on recommended hours for online teaching?

Great question! I've read a few different states requiring different number of hours or stated differently. In the site I worked at previously, it was a required 5.5 hour day for students but that didn't necessarily mean online. It included times for lunch, snack, break times, and home learning activities which didn't require families or students to be online.
NAEYC has a brief article on questions to consider during Covid that might be able to help.

It would be interesting to see per state what the requirement is or expectation for instructional remote learning, especially for such a young age group!

    Hi Kristine,

Our Pre-K class began the school year from September to January with 2 meets per day at 9AM and 2PM. Students eat breakfast between 8:30 and 9AM and also eat snack before the afternoon meet. I think it's best to teach the children when they've been fed and have energy for the day.

We've also re-evaluated our system and have decided to add in another meet time at 12:30PM so students have more time to socialize with one another and also follow up with the morning lessons/activities that the children completed. NYC DOE has recommended that by the end of the year Pre-K students should have up to 60 minutes of screen time per day. Perhaps starting your students with 15-20 minute meetings 2 to 3 times a day would be a good start.

I hope this may have given you a reference to what you may want to do with your Kindergarteners.

    Sincerely,
    Brianna
