Keeping a policy in place is important for safety purposes especially when children are involved and as long as policy is being followed, we can keep on playing, practicing and Learning. Children need to be hands on, they need to make mistakes and they must ask questions and give ideas in order to build knowledge.  Our homes, schools, walks/travels and overall experiences are all learning opportunities for practicing and playing while implementing Policy because rules matter too.

I totally agree that children need to play....and if they can play in spiritual spaces filled with wonder, awe, joy, and their own questions, the play is even more important.  Take a look at a new journal called Soul to Soul which bridges research to practices in spiritual development (a hidden value found within play)

    1. Children learn so much through play. They don't know how much they are learning through games, exploring nature, and manipulating various objects. Play is learning rules, problem solving skills, self control, and acknowledging the feeling of others, and much more. Deborah I will take a look at the journal Soul to Soul.

    Hello from the preschool doctor,
The preschool will have to be designed for children to be able to be free and just Go Play.

Most preschools are designed with not enough toys and materials to keep a group of young children busy.

And the children have to learn to put the toys away when done,  and teachers have to reinforce this concept.

And directors need to take the toys and materials "out of the closet " and put more to do.

Children should be able to have an exorbitant amount of toys and materials.

Often I see classrooms with a few carefully placed toys and  materials on the shelves in the classroom.

And, add toys and materials outside, OMG where are the toys for outdoors.
    Sincerely Melanie

Nature is a wonderful play space for learning.  The environment is already there for you and it is filled with wonder, language, lots of space for physical movement, and time to develop relationships with self, others, and the earth.  There is a limited amount of taking out and putting away and it is always authentic and meaningful.  Any EC program can add nature to their curriculum as nature is all around us.
