    Hi All,
I am an infant and toddler teacher at a University. I have been working hard to find more books that are reflective of the children in the classroom. I often have multi-cultural children in my classroom. I have had children that come many different backgrounds including: Australian, Bulgarian, French, Chinese, Taiwanese, German, Mexican, and Dutch. I have reached out to families about books from their cultural backgrounds but wanted to reach out to all the wonderful people in NAEYC. Are there board books that you have found that show or talk about cultural differences that may mirror some of the children in my classroom?

    Hi Olivia-
I am not sure if you are asking about books specifically representing those different cultures or just similarities and differences in general .  If you are talking about books that are more generally about similarities and differences, I like Mem Fox's Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes.  If you are looking for books to represent those different cultures, I have a board book in my toddler classroom called "I Love Me" by Sally Morgan and Ambelin Kwaymullina who are from Australia.  The illustrations are especially good.  I forget exactly where I got it but I did see it on Amazon.  Some of the other board books in my collection that reflect different cultures come from travelers.  That is how I got a book called Ilargia by Antonio Rubio and Xabier Olaso.  Ilargia means moon.  It's in Catalan and was on Amazon but it's expensive!    Getting books from travelers is not particularly helpful an idea right now I know and perhaps that is already what you tried by talking to your families.  I have also found some different things at book sales at libraries but that is just luck of the draw. Hope that helps!

Thank you for sharing! I am looking for books more related to culture, but it is always great to expand my similarities and differences books as well.

    Hi,
I'm a Baby Rhyme Time presenter at a public library and I have found some lovely baby books representing diversity:
I Am A Baby by Kathryn Madeline Allen; Peekaboo Morning by Rachel Isadora; Leo. Loves Baby Time by Anna McQuin; How Do You Make A Baby Smile?  by Philemon Sturges; Ten Tiny Tickles by Karen Katz; and Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes by Mem Fox.  Some of these may not be board books, but babies will love them.

I teach infants and toddlers at a university too.  One book I found which includes a lot of different faiths is Hats of Faith by Medeia Cohan.  Hope this helps you a little.
