Hi, I'm curious to hear what others are doing regarding college students' internships and placements in early childhood settings? I'm having a hard time finding enough good videos to supplement as a virtual alternative! Thanks!!

    Hi Fain
We are a labschool on a college campus. Student will be allowed back as workstudy and interns only this semester. I have knowledge about what the college is requesting of the students after they arrive on campus and feel comfortable about the procedures and recommendations we have in place. They are aware of my expectations.
We are not allowing students to come and do a lesson or two for a class assignment. However we do have dedicated observation rooms where we can accommodate students.I can see how this would be a problem for centers that are not intimately connected to a college. There would be concern about the safety of the college students entering their programs.
https://www.earlyedualliance.org/ has a video section that is hard to find exactly what you are looking for, but could be useful. Also they publish a online document called Faculty Finds which usually has some great online resources https://mailchi.mp/earlyedualliance.org/faculty-finds-september-3891005?e=9330d65632..

I  have also had good luck with using resources from Virtual Lab School.https://www.virtuallabschool.org/
This is a tricky time and I wish you the best of luck.

    Hello!
At Georgia Southern, we have actually pulled our students out of the university child development lab classrooms for the fall. Our state agency over childcare programs has limited the number of people that can be in a room and thus eliminates students who are non-essential. The instructor for that course is going to do a flipped classroom but I am not completely sure of the details.

For interns, I have been able to successfully place students. Our interns cover a wide span of placements across our concentrations (Child Life, Family Services and Child Development). For the Child Development full-time interns (final semester), they are going to 4-H, ABA clinics, public prek in a public school system, some child cares are accepting interns, some are not so it depends. It's been tough, but I have just about found them all a site. Each site has to submit their COVID safety protocols which I then submit to the administration in my program for approval. In the spring, the interns who were in sites that closed then had to support the programs remotely by doing live video calls with children, creating activities for families, etc.
    Hope this helps.
