Suggestions for Large Class

I am a pre-kindergarten teacher who currently has 19 students in both the morning and afternoon classes in an early intervention program.
This year, I am required to double-up my classes for 5 school days. This means that I am expected to provide school programming for 38 students from the hours of 8:05 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We have access to a gym, a fenced in courtyard, a playground and our classroom. Our classroom would not comfortably fit 38 students. I am thinking of capitalizing on the other spaces that we can use in addition to our classroom. I would love any suggestions as to planning ideas to program for these very long days with a huge change in routines.

    Good morning,
Yes you have a large number of students and I can only hope your classroom is square in compliance for that many students.
Make use of all space on your campus. Use outside areas to the max as your classroom. Rhe gym needs to be part of your daily schedule every day for physical education.  Use your room as best you can for learning center stations. Maybe you can team teach with another class and go to the school library .
Just take a good look at all of the spots on you campus for placs of learning.
Also use your teacher assistant to the max so you can do a small gruop with eavh child. They all need your attention.
I know you'll have a great year if you just think what's best for the children.

Good morning, Christine.  My suggestion to you is that as much as possible, you divide that large group into as many smaller groups (three groups would be great) as proper supervision will allow you and rotate the groups between the areas available to you.  But give them substantial time in each area.  This will require careful and intentional advance planning but will be worth it to everyone involved!  Good luck!
