What is something you wish you knew before you entered early education?

    I love this question!
I wish I knew the amount of layers and complexities that early education has, it's part of what is so exciting and yet challenging. I don't think it would have deterred me away, and I am grateful for the experiences I have had so far. I just would have been more mindful to really engage in those layers of early education as a new educator and to feel empowered to use my voice as I was navigating my first year in the classroom.

It took me lots of puzzling questions and situations to realize that most of the solutions can be illuminated by the research that is out there. NAEYC (and others) have provided so many rich resources.  e.g. I always banned superhero play until one year my group just couldn't live without it so I read the research, consented with class-decided parameters and was delighted with the results. So never stop learning.

Honestly, I wish I knew how hard it was going to be to find a program that is actually developmentally appropriate. It was a lot of looking! Even now, I have to supplement a lot of my curriculum to be appropriate for my students.
