We serve children 18 months - 5 years.  CDC and DCF recommend masks for all over age two.  DCF is not requiring masks and will not write citations if centers do not follow this recommendation.  What are other centers doing regarding masks for the children and staff?  We hope to re-open June 1st with about 25 staff and up to 80 children in 10 classrooms.  We would love some guidance from other center directors.

    Thank you!

    Christine,
We are requiring our staff to wear masks but not the children.  This is on the advice of physicians that I consulted who are on the forefront of the COVID 19 crisis in our county.  We are making an exception for our infant/toddler teachers since we believe it is important that the children see their teachers' mouths and expressions as they are developing language.  If a staff member in the toddler department wants to wear a mask, they certainly may.  No one must wear masks outside.

    Hello everyone,

I saw someone posted a link to the CDC's guidelines for Covid-19 for schools .  From there I noticed there was a more specific page for child care.  Here it is.  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/guidance-for-childcare.html

I would also look at your state's childcare division website to see if your state has any more specific rules or guidelines to follow.

    Stay safe everyone,

We are currently open with an Emergency Child Care License and serve children 4 months to 14, we have 22 staff, the center is hospital owned and we are required to follow same policies as medical center employees.  All of our teachers are required to wear hospital issued mask, they can not be homemade. Our children are not required to wear mask at the center under our DCFS license.  We take the staff temperatures and document it when they come in and in the afternoon.  Parents drop off the children in the lobby of the school, we take children's temperature when they are dropped off and we escort them to the classrooms, where the teacher greets them and they follow the  classroom protocols in place for hand washing.  They installed plexiglass shields at the front desk.  The hospital created social distancing posters to post in the front lobby and in common areas of our building.  We have footprints that are placed 6ft apart for parents to come in and wait when we go and retrieve the children. No more than 4 parents can wait in the lobby, we have signs posted to wait outside until space is available.  I hope this is helpful.
