  • 1.  RTI and MTSS Poll

    Hello everyone!

I hope this message finds you all well this holiday week. I am currently submitting a proposal for NAEYC annual conference next year and considering a discussion/presentation on RTI/MTSS and was wondering would the field of early childhood education find it beneficial? I wanted to quickly reach out and ask if anyone has heard of Response to Intervention (RTI) or Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) or is currently implementing it at their school?  Thank you all very much for your time and I hope you all have a Happy New Year!

Yes.  We use RTI in our school.  RTI is a very long process.  Many of our Head Start and ECEAP teachers have felt frustrated with it.  In our school we are all continuing to learn how to work with the process.

I work at a Pre-K to 8th grade private school. One of our in-service training days this past fall was on MTSS and how one private school in our area had implemented it.
I think it has merit and was intrigued.

I haven't heard of RTI, but MTSS has come up before I'm Farley new to the Early Childhood Education world but have attended the conference and I think with the DOE taking over Early Education this would be a beneficial topic to touch upon. I would attend.

    David,

The public schools in Wisconsin use the RTI model and many early childhood preschool programs integrate the Pyramid Model from CSEFEL which is also a multi-level approach. http://csefel.vanderbilt.edu/

    Hello David,

We are a private community-based childcare in Kansas with approx. 100 children 1-5-years-old and we use the CSEFEL Pyramid Model, Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports. We love the foundations of positivity, giving choices, and providing clear expectations. The visual aids are very helpful, especially the solution station for conflict resolution. On the occasions where we do have challenging behaviors, it is great to have a plan for how to handle targeted instruction in small groups or individually, and how to create action plans with families to help guide children with truly challenging behaviors.

Happy Monday. I am aware of both. Our State has adopted the Pyramid Model and many of our programs are using MTSS.  I believe it would be beneficial to have this be a topic at the NAEYC annual conference.

We are using the Pyramid Model in our small preschool. I am so please pleased with the effectiveness of this PBIS model. The expectations are clear and the language used is concise which makes I easy to implement and easy for students to understand. Using this model as it was intended brings about positive change in the social/emotional climate of the classroom. I would love to see more of this out there.
