Julie - In Florida, VPK is Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten. Each county has an Early Learning Coalition office that administrates the VPK program as well as the School Readiness program (subsidy for full day care). While School Readiness funds are restricted based on a family's income, VPK is available to every four year old in the state who will be entering kindergarten in the fall. Centers that offer VPK cannot charge parents for any aspect of the VPK program, reimbursement for offering VPK is provided by the state; however, centers may charge for services provided outside of the VPK hours (typically 9 a.m. to noon).
Hope this helps,

Subject: VPK 3 days a week
Our preschool offers VPK five days a week from 9-12 or three days a week from 9-2. The three day program has been on Monday/ Wednesday/Friday. Whenever the public school is closed for a professional day( usually a Monday or Friday) the VPK has to close as we provide childcare for older children of working parents. The VPK teachers of the three day a week program have come up with the idea of having that program on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday & not having to miss so many days. The director has not embraced the idea. Do you know of any other midweek programs that are running successfully or are NOT working on that schedule?
