I have a 4 yo student who has ADHD and ODD. I have talked with the parent and the teacher and we have been working on triggers, routine, safe area, following classroom rules etc. However, he comes to class very tired every day. Mom says he sleeps good all  night and is taking his medicine consistently. So, the question is, how do we work with him in the classroom if all he wants to do is sleep? We try to wake him for snack, outdoor time etc and we have even allowed him to sleep for awhile as well. Our center is small and we can not leave him in the class alone while everyone goes to the bathroom or outside. When we wake him he hits, yells and runs away. He does not like being outside.....Any suggestions would be very helpful and appreciated.

Good evening! This is my first time responding to a thread or discussion, (although I have often wanted too!). I have nothing to add, except to say I have been waiting for a thread like this since August. I have been working with a little boy in my program and his family to get them some extra support, a diagnosis, or simply some answers. I live in a very rural area, and there are little children's mental health support services available, esp. for families who do not qualify for Head Start or State Preschool services. My personal journey with this little boy has me implementing supports for this type of diagnosis, although he has not received  that yet. We started with considering him to be extremely sensory seeking, and this recognition and supports just around this, have been very helpful. I would be interested to hear how your child got a diagnosis and what supports, if any, this diagnosis provide him, his family and his care providers. Thanks for reading, and good luck with your work and this little fellow!
