Writing to publish

    Hi everyone!

I am an early childhood educator, adjunct, and very interested in writing to publish.  Has anyone else had experience doing so? Does NAEYC accept submissions for publication?

I am so new at this and just looking for a little bit of guidance.

    Thanks for your insight

Hi Elizabeth!  I just had my first publication come out in this month's edition of Young Children.  Here are the guidelines for submissions:

If you scroll to the bottom you can find some more links for the NAEYC blog, books, For Families website, Teaching Young Children, and voices of practitioners

    Best of luck with writing!

Are the year in advance deadlines accurate?

    Hi Lark,

I'm glad that you're planning to submit an article to Young Children! For cluster (i.e., cover topic) articles, submissions are due 11 months before the publication date. This provides time for peer review, editing (including collaborating with authors on revisions), design, printing, and shipping. General articles (i.e., the articles in the second half of each issue) are welcome at any time, but the process still takes roughly a year. I suppose editing and design could be done slightly faster if we only worked on one publication at a time, but we have a small team working on multiple issues of YC and TYC (Teaching Young Children) simultaneously.
