    • I always teach about personal safety. Usually later in the year but last week we had several children pulling down their shorts or others shorts.

I would like to know some of the ways you have taught  about this Subject.

      Thank you for your knowledge!!!

    Hello,
I taught 4s for years and am now a director going on 4 years. Situations occurred in my classroom every year and has been brought to my attention each year as a director from my preschool 4s teachers. In my experience, it has worked out best with open communication. We communicate with both children and parents. I think at this age children are discovering that they have different parts and simply just exploring. We have had the best of luck with opening up a discussion at circle time. It is uncomfortable but important! I have sent out e-mails to all parents of students in this classroom as well just making them aware. When you are both on the same page it makes things much easier!

As a teacher I had this experience in my classroom. My director found some training on Birds and Bees for Kids. Amy Lang has some trainings that we watched as a staff and then reflected on as a group. It was super helpful in how to talk to children about sex and sexuality as well as how to approach parents too.

Every year we have to talk with our four and five year old children about personal space and safety. We have purchased the Second Step Safety Unit. It's a wonderful program that fits right in to your morning meeting or circle time. The lessons are short and easy for the children to understand. There are home links and lessons for parents to do. I strongly recommend Second Step. They also have a wonderful social and emotional Unit.
