Anyone willing to share how they met the following standard:

Children have chances to appreciate culturally diverse dramatic arts in their learning environment

Working with a program that needs more examples than I was able to provide.

    Hello,

I think for children to have many open-ended opportunities and materials to express themselves creatively through
music, drama, dance, and two- and three-dimensional visual arts.
My approach is to create a learning area that is just with all kinds of instruments, and movement streamers.  Also, playing songs and having a space that is just for dancing.  try using different opportunities during transitions, and give children an instrument to play.  Mostly I design the environment to include a greater amount of materials and toys, while teaching the children to put it away when they are done.

Thanks for the response. However, I was looking more for how to meet that criteria in relationship to this piece of the standard. Examples would be nice: "culturally diverse dramatic arts ". I understand how to provide activities that support dramatic arts, but can you provide me with examples of culturally diverse dramatic arts?

Iʻm not sure if the Standard numbers changed, but this is what I have for 2J.7– Show two lesson plans that help children appreciate dramatic arts from different cultures.

We include different foods in our house area - Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Italian, Mexican, etc. We have a wok to use. We also find clothing items for different cultures - shoes, hats, shirts, skirts, etc. We have more of a Hispanic influence since we have many Hispanic chidren. We re-enact special holidays important to different cultures. Just a few examples.

    Hi, Lisa-

One way we were able to meet this criteria was to have a local college present "A Midsummer Night's Dream" as a puppet show to our children ages 3-6.  They actually contacted us as it was a project for them because one of the college students worked part-time for us..  Maybe there are local colleges or theater groups in you area that would do this type of "indoor field trip" experience for your children?  Hope this helps a bit...

    Hi Lisa:

    You can also consider providing:
    • multicultural puppets for the children to use
    • flannelboard stories of folk tales from different cultures for the children to use and act out in the literacy center
    • diverse multicultural little people figurines for your block area and dollhouse
    • a pretend hair salon in dramatic play where there are many different visuals of hair styles to choose from and empty hair care product containers

    Good afternoon,
I have approached this subject several times in different centers. Sometimes I think we often over think this. We found a website that showed us how to make simple rain sticks and sat down and made some of those to keep in the classroom. We have different CD's with multicultural music on them and the children can play them when they would like. We just googled pictures of children from other cultures dancing and playing their instruments. We also had days where would create what the children thought that different foods from different cultures looked like in art with clay and then moved it to dramatic play. We had restaurant week in dramatic play and had plastic Asian foods and Hispanic foods in our restaurant. They music one is super easy. There is also opportunities during computer center for them to view videos from other cultures.

    I hope this helps.
