Just listened to the webinar on engaging families and thought this was perfectly aligned with the authors' recommendations so I wanted to share. I work at a children's museum - Discovery Center at Murfree Spring in Murfreesboro Tennessee. We have a site that includes videos, an activity blog, and most connected to today's presentation, a live Facebook (then on Youtube) program. Our early childhood literacy and science program is called SPARK Live and is on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 am CDT. I read books and engage early learners and their grownups in activities during and post the 10-20 minute video. Check out our videos at
https://www.facebook.com/discoverycenter/ . So far we have:
- The excitement of exploring and noticing using Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury.
- Thinking about evidence of growth using Do You Know Which Ones Will Grow? by Susan A. Shea and illustrated by Tom Slaughter
- Exploring circles around us using Round by Joyce Sidman, & illustrated by Taeeun Yoo
- Noticing, comparing and creating with seeds and seed pods using A Seed is Sleepy by Dianna Hutts Aston & illustrated by Sylvia Long
- Thinking about collecting and grouping using Sort it Out by Barbara Mariconda & illustrated by Sherry Rogers.
I hope you will join us live or after. Stay healthy and staff...Best, Dale
