I'm searching for a resource to share with families on the importance of social/emotional development vs. vigorous academic expectations for kindergarten readiness. I would appreciate any references to articles or studies that support this important topic. Thank you!

    Hi Becky
I work at Horizons for Homeless Children in Boston. We always maintain that Social Emotional Health is the curriculum and that " if we don't get this right, nothing else matters "
Harvard's Center for the Developing Child https://developingchild.harvard.edu is one of my go-to places with lots of information on how child mental/social-emotional health effects learning and impacts future outcomes. They even have resources designed specifically for parents. Their (groundbreaking?) Publication From Neurons to Neighborhoods is there as well. I will try to dig up some more specific information for you as well but this is a great place to start. Don't be thrown off by things that seem specific about trauma. It is all relevant to understanding this HUGELY  important concept.
Oh...and the Pyramid Consortium is also good (that is the social emotional model we use).

Agree with Resna Ricketts-McCain regarding the CSEFEL website. It is the basis for the Pyramid Model I mentioned earlier.

Try Pathways.org for sharing with non-educators.  It is written in layman terms and they provide brochures on most topics that break down the social-emotional skill development by age so it is applicable to all parents.
