  • 1.  Classroom Layout Design during Pandemic

    Hello!
I am currently working on redesigning our preschool classroom layout to meet the new guidelines and I am finding it challenging. How do we create a layout that is still warm and welcoming, but accommodates the social distancing rule? Should the toys all be put away or is it okay to leave them out? Or are we to create individual toy boxes for each student?

    I welcome your suggestions/recommendations.

    Thank you.

    Hello Jonathan,

Ive been doing some research on what the preschools will look like post quarantine. In one of the schools in Hong Kong, and Denmark they created individual pouches for the children (ages 3-5+). For example they had pouches with writing material/ writing tools and then created pouches with activities. The schools had used plastic ziploc bags, but I much prefer using cloth and having the pouches labeled. In this way they can be sent home and washed by the parents. In the U.K. they are creating 'bubbles' ie small groups that will not be changed so they possibly have an easier way to work with resources within the group and ensure that all items are kept sterile. Another preschool had invested in child size white boards for each child. By extension, some settings will opt for child sized chalkboards, depending on your individual process.

I am a researcher, so don't have any practical experience, perhaps this can give you something to think about.

Good morning. I am supporting some teachers in Massachusetts who have the same question. Is anyone aware of an article or video that provides some helpful solutions that I can share with them?

Hello everyone!  I was thinking about re-planning my classroom as well. I wonder if Community Playthings would have some good ideas?
    They are amazing space designers.
