On one of my early childhood Facebook groups someone posted about using empty pill bottles with toddlers and preschoolers. They were looking for ideas to use them for, such as art projects or in doctor kits. They are empty and without labels, and I assume washed out. She got mixed reactions on using them, some for and some against. I am wondering what those on this forum think. Would you use them?

This is popular within the Montessori environment. However I'd say they should be used with the appropriate age group, under guidance and after the teacher has made a proper presentation to the children.

If the children aren't used to using glass in the classroom it can be a safety hazard. Therefore it's advisable to start with plastic. The aim of opening and closing bottles is to develop hand-eye coordination as well as strengthening the pincer grip; as indirect preparation for writing and other fine motor skills.

Nope we wouldn't play with or use these for anything. Pill bottles are a "no touch" thing and we wouldn't want to confuse children or send mixed messages.

I would not because we want to enforce the idea that pill bottles are like hot ovens in that they should not be touched.

You don't have to use actual medicine bottles. There are so many small bottles available that have lids. Have a look at the video I posted for a clear example👍👍
