Covid-19 Vaccines for Child Care Providers

    Hi All,
Now that there are several promising options for Covid-19 vaccines, where are preschool and child care workers on the list of those prioritized to receive the vaccine when it becomes available?  We were considered "essential" when schools were closed, but the plans I am seeing for distribution of the vaccine refer to k-12 teachers.  I have not seen a specific reference to childcare.  I would love to know more about the plan for us. :) Thanks!

What a great question! I am not even sure where to start with finding the answer.

urging state departments of health to include the child care workforce in the vaccine priority list of essential workers

Thanks Alan! I am happy to report that CT has done this, I hope other states do as well!

Great letter, Alan. We are advocating for this in Ohio too.

We were contacted by a child care provider whose son is a videographer who offered to produce a brief video at no charge on prioritizing early childhood educators for vaccine priority. He did a great job. You can view it here:  https://www.facebook.com/oaeyc%20/videos/1842559672572181/

    Dear Kim,

Outstanding! Ohio AEYC is way out in front. Is the National AEYC aware of this? I would think they would want to post this front and center on the NAEYC home page. Well done. Wishing you, your, family, and your Ohio AEYC family a safe, happy, HEALTHY, and dare I say it, prosperous New Year.

    Yours truly,

    Alan

Thanks, Ohio AEYC for always putting our professionals first in your work. You have provided many opportunities over this difficult time to include the professional's voice. Your work with Courageous Conversations and this video are but a few of the ways you have touched and validated our profession and provided a collective voice for them. Thank you for all the staff does to support Ohio's Professionals and we are looking forward to continuing support in 2021.
    With deepest gratitude,
    Pam

Arkansas specifically mentions "day care workers" in it's phasing plan if any one would like to see a plan for a state that has included them:
    • Phase 1-B
Essential workers will be vaccinated through community pharmacies and medical clinics that have agreed to serve as Phase 1-B vaccination providers
      • Examples of essential workers include day care workers, workers in K-12 and Higher Education, food industry (meat packing and grocery), correctional
workers, utilities, truck drivers, and essential government and infrastructure workers, etc.
