My simple answer - Equitable instruction = cultural responsiveness practices = required coursework included in teacher certification programs.

Provide rich opportunities for hands-on early learning which is not literacy/vocab based.

Bring STEAM materials into the class from real-world places where children of color might not get to go like the zoo or forest.

These are two ways I see the opportunity for more equity over which teachers have control. Opportunities and grit for STEM in middle and high school is the big gap. I think it's important for CoC to be in it, learning with other CoC so they are not the lone child in a sea of other children whose parents are technical and privileged. Robotics Clubs, Science Olympiad, and Girls Who Code all provide social support during these years. As early educators, we still need to provide social-emotional education to all children for their collaborative success. Companies are begging for more diverse candidates, but if we are not modeling and mentoring for children of color to see themselves in the role of Scientist or Engineer, we are not going to see a swell of hidden figures bound to improve this world.

This is a very good topic, I had talked to a investor counselor on incorporating STEM/STEAM in my hometown or getting it more into school programs or having it in after school programs.

I have seen some programs through FB that advertise STEM that can be ordered.  Far as me being a Family Child Care Provider, I introduce math on every level I can for my age range of children.  It is very important!
