I was asked to do a case study on a child who is 4 years old (Jackson) and having trouble responding to his classmates' emotions.  For ex: when his classmate fell down and started crying.  Jackson just looked at him and then he started crying as well. While playing with another classmate he knocked down all the blocks that she build up.  Jackson responds with crying, he say's "I'm sorry", but he doesn't help pick the blocks up.  When the teacher spoke to his mom she stated that he's the same way at home, but recently, when she wasn't feeling well Jackson asked her if she would like a glass of grapefruit juice.  Mom said, that grapefruit was her favorite juice.

My question:  "How might a close analysis of development in just one area help teachers understand a child's overall development?"
