  • 1.  Links with reccomended amount of food I/T should eat

    Hello,

I work in a mixed age group of Infants and toddlers.  The parents provide all the meals/snacks for their child.  I am looking for resources and links to share with parents about how much food is appropriate to give to their children.  Many parents simply do not give enough food to their child or the food is mostly carbs.  I believe one family restricts the food their 15 month old eats because she is "chunky".

I need resources to help back up that their children's minds and bodies are constantly moving and learning and need proper nutrition to develop properly.

Thank you for any info you can provide!

Great question!  The University of Michigan has a great PDF form that is easy to read. I have embedded the link below. Hope this helps!

Maybe you can get in touch with a local WIC center, pediatrician, or nutritionist and ask them to do a talk for the parents or send resources.  I would also recommend talking to the family.   If their doctor told them to restrict the child's diet or they are have issues with picky eating at home you will news to address the issue differently.

Another idea is to use colors to encourage parents to send more variety in.  Tell them you are doing a color a week and ask them to send in food that is that color.

    Just some thoughts.

    Best wishes,

The CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) sponsored by the USDA has created meal pattern recommendations for children, broken down by age group.  They have some excellent materials that you can print and hand out to parents, and posters that you could place on your parent bulletin board or in your eating area.
