I tested postive of COVID-19 three weeks ago, I did my quarantine and I was fine after a week. My husband tested positive three days after me and a week later he got admitted into the hospital because of respiratory problems,  he was there for a week neither both worked this is my 4th week no working and 3rd for him, my question is: is there way/law or grant that my employer can pay me? I been hearing people saying their place of work are paying them because this is a national emergency,  but wondering. I don't get vacation or sick days at work either. I work in this daycare since February 2019.
    Thank you in advance.

I am so sorry you are going thru all this. I hope you continue to get better and your husband too. Under the FFCRA (Families First Coronavirus Resposnse Act) you should recieve about the equivalent of two weeks pay. Check with your employer on this and If they don't know about it or feel like it doesn't apply to them, check with the dept of labor. If you are full time you may be able to claim unemployment. Check with your state's we department of of labor. Lastly, check with your church or a local food pantry. Many churches have funds to help and you don't necessarily have to belong to that church -- ask a local Catholic church about their St Vincent DePaul Organization. Any food pantry should be able to help you with food so that you can save your cash for other needs. Most only let you come once a month so do not be afraid to go to different one each week. Also check with your utility company to see if they have COVID assistance.  These organizations are there to help so don't let your family get too far behind before you ask for help. You can pay it forward when you are more stable. Praying things get better for you!

Gabriela, Look on the Department of Labor website regarding the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.  This will give you the information you need.

My understanding is that we are required to pay up to two weeks of sick pay for a positive case of COVID-19 under the FFCRA act.  The information can be found at https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/pandemic/ffcra-employer-paid-leave.

    Hello Ms. Rodriquez,

Unfortunate that you are dealing with Covid-19 wishing you and your husband all the very best! My sister caught Covid-19 during the time when it hit New York City the worst of times. She was out of work but her employer did give her all of her sick days and vacation days. Then payed her half of her salary as a part time. So that she was able to keep her health insurance . Then she applied for unemployment due to Covid-19. I do not know if this helps you in some way. Did you and your husband apply for unemployment due to Covid-19? Look that up in your state as every state deals with benefits very differently. Start there first, your employer may not be able to afford the outcome of Covid-19 as many preschools and day cares are struggling to keep their doors open. Unless, the day care or preschool are  connected to the public school system or they are operating with federal grants which may cover cover some of the cost. This is what my sister did. It worked for her until she was well enough to resume teaching. Good Luck! Be Well Be Safe-Milagros
