  • 1.  Developmental Guide for Families

    Does anyone have a recommendation for a guide that provides an overview of typical developmental characteristics across areas including: physical, social-emotional, and academic.  We have used the CDC Milestone printouts in the past and have also been told about Yardstick guides, but they don't begin until Kindergarten.  We are needing something for 2 - 5 years old.

    Good Morning
    In New York we have the Early Learning Guidelines that is a developmental resource for Educators of children birth through 8 years old.  You could download an electronic version here-
    The also offer it in a spiral bound edition for a fee.

    I recommend you check to find out if your state developed Early Learning Standards. Wisconsin's Standards (attached) are for birth to kindergarten and include all developmental areas. They are not age linked which is why there is a developmental continuum. Most state standards are age linked. 
    Wisconsin also developed a package of materials especially to help families understand child development. See the link below:
