I just read one article by Aimée Vachon, and I want to share some facts with you about refugee families and children:

"According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), there are over 25 million refugees throughout the world-over half of whom are children under the age of 18. There has never been a greater need for investment in quality early childhood education worldwide, but for children who have been displaced from their homes due to violence and hardship, the need for quality support is especially crucial. Significant progress is already being made- such as the selection of Sesame Workshop and International Rescue Committee for the groundbreaking 100&Change grant to bring early childhood education to Syrian refugees-but more needs to be done to reach children throughout Africa, Asia, and Latin America who are equally as vulnerable"
Here is the link to read the full article:  https://www.naeyc.org/resources/blog/empowering-refugee-parents

Regardless of where you stand on issues of immigrant, as early childhood educators, we have our professional obligation to help ALL children.  I wonder what your class, your school, and or your community have done to help refugee families and children. How can we support refugee families and parents when they first come to our classrooms?  What can we do to facilitate refugee children's social emotional development?

    Hello Wei Dai,
Sorry for the delay in responding. I'm catching up on the over 10,000 emails in my 4 email accounts. Thank you for addressing the FACT that ALL children, regardless of their homestead, deserve quality lives. 👏🏽 I too believe that this is a non-partisan concern. Personally, although all children in every region may not need the identical supports of another region is the world, I don't allow my advocacy work to be dictated by borders noting that ALL children need to know that they are worthy of LOVE!
