@1 years ago I began my e.c.e. career as a movement teacher. I collaborated with a music teacher and we would go to every room with a music and movement lesson. The early learning center did theme based learning and often we would base our lessons on themes or seasons, holiday, etc. Currently, I teach in a lab school and we have several partnerships with various school and colleges housed within the university. One partnership is with the School of Music. Every year, we get four to six music education students in our classroom, their lesson always incorporate movement. I always include a free dance opportunity in my classroom -- a song that doesn't instruct the children what to do and is usually more on the pop side -- a current favorite is "Rock Lobster" by the B-52's. The free dance is an opportunity for student to express themselves to music. They do it with partners and as solo movers. So, we do not have a separate class, but we are intentional with the use of movement in the classroom.
