    Hello all!

I am wondering what social emotional curriculum you are using?

The best social and emotional curriculum out there that I would recommend for any 0-8 year old classroom is Conscious Discipline. To do it properly however, needs years of training. So before you adopt, consider team buy in and budget. The others I would highly recommend as well are:

         1. Second Step
         2. Build Your Bounce
         3. Flip It

Along with a strong, universal social and emotional curriculum, I would recommend implement Positive behavior interventions and supports in the classroom or school too. Let me know if you have any further questions. Good luck!

Please check out the Pyramid Model. I have trained in it and have helped clients from districts to programs to parenting within Early Head Start.
I've been at this for so many years, and I truly think this is the best out there.
It does require 3 days of training for preschool and 3 days for infant/toddler - depending on your program.
There is also a positive coaching section.
It's used in many states - at least 13 and counting.
If you have any questions, just google it, or email me and I'll try to put you in touch with materials.

Yes! I recently did a training for Teaching Pyramid and really enjoyed it! It's so helpful for me as a new teacher.

I have not heard of that, but I think as long as it is researched, peer reviewed with randomized trials, and it has been shown to be effective, give it a shot! Google Scholar or a nearby university should be able to give you quick guidance with regard to the research behind it. I hope that helps!

We use Second Steps for our social emotional curriculum. It has a lesson topic for each week along with newsletters you can print and send to parents. It also can be aligned with Teaching Strategies Gold if you use it for assessments.

I would be interested in seeing this curriculum since we are using TS Gold.  I work primarily with infants and toddlers.

Repectfulways has a great Social and Emotional Curriculum.  It has individual modules so you can choose your specific topics.  There is a really interesting blog post about bullying.

I have been using the Second Step program in my preschool the last couple of years. It is easy to implement, highly adaptable, and the children seem to enjoy it.

We use Second Step. The kids seem to enjoy the puppets and I like the picture posters to use for discussion.

    Hi Teri,

I also suggest looking at the Pyramid Model and the free videos, Powerpoints and other other resources available at http://csefel.vanderbilt.edu/

The model and resources were created by the Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning.

The Center for Social-emotional Learning (that may not be the exact name) has an online book that reviews SEL curricula for early childhood. The Incredible Years and Preschool PATHS have a foundation in research evidence.

    Hello all,
We start our year using Character Counts lessons from the Robert D. and Billie Ray Center at Drake University (www.drake.edu/RayCenter).
Then from there we move into 2nd Step which I have been using for over 20 years. We pull out the lessons on feelings 1st and then proceed to whatever lesson we feel our kids need understanding of ( such as Waiting in line, how to enter play with others, name calling, steps to solve social problems, etc). We also incorporate books such as How Are You Peeling?, Have You Filled a Bucket Today?, Incredible You and many others as they fit into what we are discussing for mental health and social awareness issues. All this combined helps the children to grow their social/emotional needs and we give parents handouts on what we are discussing as well so they are aware of what is being taught to their children.

Our school has been exploring Yale's SEL approach called RULER?  Has anyone had experience using RULER with young children?

I also can't speak highly enough about the Pyramid Model. As a center, we started implementing about a year ago and already have noticed the difference it is making with the children's social emotional development, challenging behavior and staff retention/burn out - all with the data to support that. It is not a curriculum though, more of a framework, so not sure it would be exactly what you are looking for. But we use Pyramid Model concepts and practices and implement that as our social emotional curriculum. Check it out to see if it would fit your needs!

I'm a fan of "We Thinkers" program. It teaches the foundational concepts to social skills: that thoughts are in our head, that everyone has feelings, how to look at people when you speak to them, active listening, body personal space... I think this program (designed by therapists) benefits everyone due to the mindfulness it builds, but it is especially great when there are some preschoolers who really need these concepts cognitively taught.
