Hello Tanya,
Thank you so much for sharing this article. I am an employee and ECE student at my Community College with a college financial aid background. My goal is to start my college's childcare center one day because I strongly agree and see the correlation. Generational wealth, education, and trauma are all related cycles. I see this and have seen this my entire life in the inner-city public school system. We have to impact the ecological system of the child by caring for the most important players in the child's ecological system; the Family/Parents.
Currently, we face much trouble starting our center. It has been a goal of the ECE department for over a decade. And its so sad because we see some students not succeed due to an inability to obtain stable care, not to mention the other numerous benefits. We see them drop their classes or F/W then loose their financial aid privileges, making it almost impossible for them to return to school- creating an even wider gap. We see the student's attempt to appeal their financial aid termination status to only be declined, because "
you shouldn't have attempted classes if you didn't have childcare." It makes my blood boil and reminds me of why I am doing the work. People sometimes don't understand how your ultimate goal and passion can be ECE when you work for college-age students, but the article you have provided speaks to my point and it reminds me of why I am working like this. To help children by helping families.
Thank you Miss Tanya!

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share this post, Filling the Achievement Gap Through Multi-Generational Learning. Is there an achievement gap, opportunity gap, or a learning/teaching gap? What multi-generational strategies are you using in your programs?
