Last year, it took me 5 months and many, many phone calls to receive my membership certificate and card. I renewed in early February 2019 and didn't receive my materials until late July 2019.

This year, I renewed on January 24, 2020. The information I was given last year was that batch membership mailings are sent out on the 15th and the 28th/30th/31st of each month.  Based on this information, my membership materials should have been sent out NO later than February 15, 2020.

I renewed WELL BEFORE the COVID-19 shutdowns.  Imagine my surprise when my membership materials arrived today - July 23, 2020 - 6 months after my renewal!

What is going on NAEYC?  I was told last year that there had been a switch to a new distributor.  Is that going to be the excuse this year?  Please don't use a COVID excuse as I renewed before 2 months before anything started happening.

I am also concerned about the changes that are being made to membership benefits.  I pay the premium membership price for a reason.  I can tolerate the 20% off coupon in the store because it does help me add to my resource library.  However, the reduction of the printing of the Young Children magazine and  the book publications reduces the value of the membership due to printing costs on my end.  How will membership fees be affected by the reduction of the subsidizes?

Thank you in advance for your help and I look forward to hearing form NAEYC soon!

I sincerely apologize for the continued delays you are having with receiving your membership materials. It is our intent to make sure our members receive all of their materials in a timely manner and we have failed in doing so for you. I will ask our customer care team to review your record in order to determine what is causing this and resolve it as soon as possible. Someone from that team will be reaching out to you.
NAEYC also recognizes the importance of our print publications to our members and the impact this change may cause for them. NAEYC has been able to subsidize member benefits through other revenue lines over the last several years. The impact of Covid-19 has made this impossible to continue at the same level. Unfortunately, even with these changes, NAEYC continues to subsidize benefits beyond the cost to members and therefore the cost of membership is not being adjusted.

Thank you for your support of NAEYC and the work you do for the professional. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out at info@naeyc.org

I have been having difficulty with NAEYC since I renewed last year as a premium member as well. During the last half of last year I ended up having to call every time I needed my print publications. None of the books and none of the magazines were ever sent to me unless I called their office. I renewed in February and was told that the situation had been fixed. I have not received any new materials since the renewal except when I called and now since the covid19 I have received absolutely nothing. I have sent emails and have been told that at first no one could go into the office. Then I was told that they were going into the office and my materials would be sent. And I have received nothing. I am on the board of my local chapter and so would like to continue my membership. but I'm not sure if that will happen after this one expires because I have gotten absolutely nothing out of it except frustration.

I, too, have been frustrated with the offerings from NAEYC and now with the changes to print publication availability I will be reevaluating renewal when it becomes a possibility.  I dealt with the time lag of being sent my membership card etc and slow respond from support and it added to my frustration.  I, too, believe NAEYC needs to adjust the cost of membership due to the lessening of materials given.

I agree. I'm not receiving anything either. While I enjoy reading the discussion posts, I am so disappointed that I'm not getting the magazines.

I haven't been receiving anything either! I'm a comprehensive member and I haven't received my magazines or any member books!! Thinking about  not rejoining at that level next renewal!

While I agree with the frustration with the timeliness of receiving membership benefits from NAEYC, I would urge members to think again before choosing not to renew. I sit on the governing board of the Iowa affiliate, and I choose to "deal" with those frustrations because I take into consideration the benefits I get from my Iowa group. Our state organization offers discounts on our annual conference and spring institute. While it isn't huge, it makes a difference. What I find most important is the connections I've made with other early childhood professionals. I've not only learned a great deal from them, they've also been able to give me ideas and leads and relationships. Furthermore, there are intrinsic perks from belonging to the national organization. The research, the credibility, and advocacy are just a few of those benefits.
