  • 1.  paid maternity leave for teachers?

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to find a way to keep a Lead Teacher who is expecting in a few months. We have not offered paid leave in the past because we are very small (30 students) but I want to offer this teacher a 60% of her pay for 6 weeks. My question: do you have maternity leave, what percentage of pay and is there a stipulation that the teacher stays for a certain time (such as 60 days) after returning to work?
Thank you and Happy holidays from Colorado!

    Hello Susan,

I would suggest you begin with your Annual Budget to determine the short and long term financial effect of what you propose. I would also suggest you consult with a lawyer or someone with a background in HR to find out the legal responsibilities you have when an employee is going to go on a Maternity Leave. Finally, I suggest you develop a policy for how you will handle requests for Maternity Leave so that you do not get in a situation where you offer paid leave to one teacher and not to another teacher in the same situation because of the financial status of your business.
