It should be fine! Our center is becoming certified as 'Asthma Friendly' and we were told to use baking soda in all our trash cans to help with odor absorption instead of using scented sprays that only cover up the smells. I don't see how this would be any different.
Curious why they are in a can though--we've had a number of cloth diaper families through the years and they bring in a lined wet-bag that we hang out of reach but still near the changing table. It made it easier for parents to take everything and the bag can be washed too.

We have a family that uses cloth diapers with a note from doctor. Parents have provided a separate can from dirty diapers and bring them home each day. Parents would like to put a small box of baking soda at the bottom of can under the bag. The can is in a locked cabinet that is inaccessible to children. Thoughts on allowing the baking soda at the bottom??
