  • 1.  Getting ready for re-accreditation with the new standards....

    Hello all,

We are in year 4 of our current accreditation and have begun getting ready for re-accreditation. At our last visit 4 years ago, we received commendations in 9 out of 10 of the areas assessed. We have only grown and improved as a program since then. As we dive into the new standards, we are becoming quite nervous. Standards that were just one in the old, are broken into 4 or 5 in the new. And while the specifics and what NAEYC is asking for in the portfolio is spelled out in an easier manner, we are more concerned with the way the new standards are broken down/their semantics. Is it that possible that a program that received commendations last visit will fail the next? I am really just looking for the feedback of others. Are we reading more into the new standards? Is anyone out there deciding to take a step back from accreditation based on these new standards? Would love to hear what others are thinking......

    Thoughts??

Our Center just finished working on the new NAEYC Classroom Portfolio criteria. It was overwhelming for all teachers older and newer. I have completed and fulfilled all the criteria in the program portfolio, except for the PPDP. I am still working on it, and I have found myself stuck on that. Although it is less, it seems like there is more to cover.

We are just 'diving in' to the new accreditation system as our renewal is up next summer. So far I am finding it way easier than what I did 5 years ago. I have had to redo some things on lesson plans so I have documentation of what is required but that was just a minor change. We did very well on our last review and I'm not looking for anything to be different this time. Just knowing what you need documentation on ahead of time really helps prepare for this.
