  • 1.  Learning Pods - how to plan safely

    Posted 09-16-2020 06:09 PM
As parents navigate online learning this year due to COVID-19, many are realizing how important peers are to children who are learning. Learning Pods are one way many parents are providing learning environments that are safer than an open classroom, with very small groups of children in private homes. But parents often are not aware of the many safety and health concerns for young children. You may want to check out how the State of Colorado is advising families in how to safely provide Learning Pods " Resource Guide for Individuals Hosting and Families Participating in Instructional Learning Pods" This material is one way families can also be educated about the many issues we face every day in child care. If your state also advises families about Learning Pods, please also share it so we can get a sense of where everyone is going with this new child care option.

    Hi, Milagros,
I really hope our field can benefit from the work opportunities with Learning Pods. Working with very small groups in someone's home can be wonderful for children and adults alike. And the competition for teachers could help with the abysmally low pay that is too common. In fact, the Child Care Wage$ Initiative, part of the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® National Center, is one way that might lead us out of the unsustainable, underpaid careers so many of us have chosen. Learn more here https://teachecnationalcenter.org/child-care-wage/ I have been trying to get this implemented in our area and if anyone wants to connect about how that has been working, PM me. It's an uphill battle, but has so much potential.
    Good luck Milagros!

Thank you so much for your article. I am starting a learning lab and just received our license through DCF. There were some hoops to jump being it was not summer. I am getting ready to hire and advertise now.
