  • 1.  Dishes and utensils in Daycare

    HI Everyone

I am hoping you can help me. We have always used the IKEA kids dishware in our daycares. It's easy to replace, IKEA normally has tons of it and it al matches in size. However it typically needs replacing at least a few times per year, the utensils especially don't look great even after a week.

We are looking to move away from these dishes into something else, that's still fun, colourful but it much more durable than what we currently have. What is everyone using in their centres?

    Thanks!

    Good Morning,

We use silverware from the world market, it's not colorful but very durable!

We have used the silverware from Environments (now carried by Discount School Supply) - https://www.discountschoolsupply.com/search/?text=silverware

Aside from losing items to the trash can periodically, we have found them to be durable and easy for the kids to use. I lucked into some great small plastic bowls at Target a few years ago, but we have also had luck with the melamine plates and other items from Environments - https://www.discountschoolsupply.com/theme/dishwasher-safe-plates.

I am very surprised that you can use those. In MN that would be a big no-no.  We use melamine dishes and plates.  Upfront they are expensive but they last.

We are in Canada. They don't regulate that here. But I agree we don't want to be using them any more. I am looking into the melamine dishes, but can barely find fun interesting colours. But we will be switching regardless.

I definitely want something that lasts. Can I ask where you get yours from?
