Hello,

I am a retired faculty member from New Mexico State University living in Las Cruces, New Mexico. I am currently serving on a community committee that has its goal to create both a mobile and free-standing children's museum. I am wondering if anybody has had experience with a community children's museum and might have some suggestions for resources (financial and otherwise). As of this writing we have one donation from the electric company and another donation from a private contributor and are doing both a search for a building and a mobile unit.

I would suggest contacting Cate Heroman who recently published the Tinkering book at NAEYC press.  She is the director at the Knock Knock Knock Children's museum in Baton Rouge Louisiana.  Her ideas are wonderful!
