I am switching roles from classroom teacher to early childhood director, and I am looking for a teacher observation form. If you have one that you use and could recommend, I would appreciate it!

I have attached the forms we use for teacher observation in our school.  In the fall, we have a Peer Performance Review in which teachers observe each other and provide each other with feedback on the topics listed in the form.  In the spring, we have a more formal Review in which I (as Director) together with board members provide teachers with feedback on the topics listed in that form.  The spring review form is based on our mission statement and values so I encourage you to customize any form you use to incorporate your own mission and vision.  Hope this helps!

Sara, I'd like to recommend the book "Evaluating and Supporting Early Childhood Teachers"
It has many strategies as well as downloadable forms to observe teachers and <g class="gr_ gr_25 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling" id="25" data-gr-id="25">importantly</g> to engage them in a process of observation and evaluation that is supportive.

We use Evaluating and Supporting Early Childhood Teachers forms.  These are wonderful for getting an accurate, authentic picture of a teacher's competencies and areas to build on.  The book also helps with having the difficult conversations that sometimes happen in our field.  Thank you to Angele Sancho Passe for developing such a user-friendly tool.  I use the book so much, and have lent it out so much, that the binding is cracked.

I created simplified forms that follow the CLASS instrument, because I most want to give my teachers feedback on their interactions with children. I shared these ahead of time, along with definitions and training on what the items in that tool meant. I would strongly suggest that you think about what it is you want to see from your teachers, and observe for that specifically. It should be aligned with your job descriptions and annual evaluation as well. The other thing you can do is to observe for different things at different times. You can specifically choose goals with your teachers that align with their personal areas for growth. So this quarter you may observe a teacher to see if s/he is using positive redirection with children, and the next quarter you may observe to see if she's meeting her goal with incorporating a variety of learning modalities at meeting time. Start with the question, "what is my goal for this observation?" There are lots of books with instruments available, too.
