I'm looking forward to 2018 Annual Conference and planning on stopping by at the Forum on Thursday. I'm also presenting a session on Friday and I hope to see many of the family day care providers at my session:
#334 Making Sense of the Sense: How limiting children's physical movement exacerbates challenging behaviors.
Teachers often question: Why are more children having trouble with balance, motor skills, attention, and emotional control? What is causing so many young children to require occupational therapy services? Why is the number of the children diagnosed for ADHD growing rapidly?
One important factor is the environments the that limits their movement. 'A learning environment that allows children to develop their proprioceptive and vestibular senses has a positive impact on both children's physical development and emotional health."
The challenging behavior can be reduced by developmentally appropriate environment that encourages movements.
