eBook and Journal Frustration

  • 1.  eBook and Journal Frustration

I am new to this forum but I have been very frustrated with the change to getting an eBook rather than a hard copy of books as a benefit. I have a macbook and could not figure out how to download the book which means I don't get that benefit.

I teach in a university and often have used NAEYC books I get as a means of determining course textbooks. However, if I can't get a book, I can't decide whether or not I want to use that book.

Why were we not consulted about this change last year? I'm seriously thinking of not renewing my membership if I don't receive a benefit for being a member. NAEYC, do better! Respect our need for a real book or at least give us a choice as to whether we want a hard copy of a book or a downloadable one.

I so agree!!  I had a difficult time downloading the ebook as well. And I have the same concerns as I also use the NAEYC publications as references in my classes. When I spoke to NAEYC I was told hard copies were just not available.  I am interested to hear the response NAEYC gives to us.

    Good Afternoon Ms. Pollack,

I am sorry that you too are dissatisfied with the E-Book member benefit. Many of our publications are still available for purchase in hard copy, however the book benefits for Standard Members is now provided in E-Book form.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I would be happy to speak with you.

    Good Afternoon Ms. Hogg,

I apologize that you are unsatisfied with the new member benefit to provide an E-Book instead of a hard copy book. Our membership team attempted to be proactive in notifying members of this change via correspondence that was distributed via mail and email in July.  These changes went into effect on September 1, 2020. For your reference, I have included the link that outlines all of the membership changes that were implemented - https://www.naeyc.org/membership-changes. I also understand that you had difficulty with accessing the downloads and one of our Customer Care Representatives has assisted you in this matter.

We value your membership and hope that you will consider maintaining your membership with NAEYC. Please let me know if you would like to discuss this further and I will reach out to you by telephone.

    Regards,

I have had this very same issue and absolutely agree that choice should be given! I was going to read the latest book for pd ,but couldn't access it, so had to use online sources that I could access instead.

I am a little confused. I joined about 6 weeks ago. When I joined it gave me options that included mailed or pdf. Will I not be receiving a journal in the mail?

I have received copies of TYC in the mail. I think they reduced the number of times the journals are printed. I'm unsure. As to books, they are epub.

I have been a NAEYC member for years and am too getting frustrated with the changes that are happening.  I never received a mailing regarding the changes and am lucky if I receive my membership materials before I have to renew for the upcoming year.  Here is what comes up when I clicked in the link provided by Customer Care:
