Dear community members,
We wanted to start a thread where you can ask questions and find lots of useful information on NAEYC's member benefits. We are happy to know that many of you are excited to receive your tangible benefits, and have seen many questions asking when they will arrive to your mailbox.
While your digital benefits such as Hello and the digital versions of Young Children and Teaching Young Children are available right away, there can sometimes be a gap in when you receive the first print copy of your selected publication, depending on the date you joined and the publication date of the resource.
Below we've outlined NAEYC print resources, including membership cards, periodicals, and books that we hope will help explain the rhythm of delivery.
Printed Membership Benefits
Membership Cards: Every member, regardless of membership level, receives a printed membership card. These cards are printed and mailed twice a month. It normally takes 4 to 6 weeks to receive the printed membership card.
Please note: If you are joining NAEYC as a new member, you will receive your membership card in a white NAEYC envelope. Renewing members receive a brightly colored fold-over packet which contains your membership certificate and card, as shown below.
Journal/Magazine: There are five issues of Young Children (YC) and Teaching Young Children (TYC) published per year. Standard level members receive one publication of their choice. Premium level members receive both publications. The schedule for each publication is as follows:
TYC - Feb/March, April/May, August/Sept, Oct/Nov, and Dec/Jan. There is no June/July issue.
YC - March, May, July, September and November. There is no January issue.
Depending on your join date, choice of publications and membership level (for books) there may be a delay in receiving your first issue. This means if you join on October 15, your first YC would not arrive until March of the following year. Similarly if you join May 10th, your first TYC would not arrive until August.
However, note that digital access is available from the moment you join: members can access these publications online in an ever-growing full-text archive that currently focuses on the most recent issues and the most popular articles from the last several years (See the past issues of TYC and the past issues of YC). In addition, Standard and Premium members have full access to an archive of YC through JSTOR (an online, academic library) that dates back to 1956.
Books: Standard members receive one book benefit per membership year. Premium members receive four books and one coupon to redeem a book of their choosing from NAEYC's online store. The shipping schedule for these books vary based on publication dates. The next book for both Standard and Premium level members, Ethics and the Early Childhood Educator: Using the NAEYC Code, Third Edition will ship in March 2018.
